Our Purpose
Kemp ISD Libraries empower students to explore, read, and grow through access to knowledge, imagination, and information.
-
Vision
Texas school libraries are essential, interactive, collaborative learning centers, providing physical and virtual access to ideas, information and learning tools for the entire school community.
-
Mission Statement
Certified librarians and trained staff nurture a culture of literacy and inquiry throughout the school community. An integral part of instructional teams, librarians and library staff collaborate with teachers on curriculum, technology, design and delivery. They maintain a professionally curated collection of print and digital materials and assist learners in locating resources that match their academic and personal interests. Librarians and staff model and teach information literacy and digital citizenship, empowering learners to make ethical, informed choices in an increasingly complex and evolving global environment.

Intellectual freedom is the right of every individual to both seek and receive information from all points of view without restriction. It provides for free access to all expressions of ideas through which any and all sides of a question, cause or movement may be explored.
Kemp ISD Libraries provide grade-appropriate materials to ALL without restriction based upon one particular set of beliefs. -
In accordance to Kemp ISD Board policy, Kemp ISD Libraries will use the Standards adopted by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, in consultation with the State Board of Education.

Kemp ISD Libraries are glad to partner with parents and guardians in supporting each student’s reading journey and building a lifelong love of learning.
Kemp ISD follows the policy that parents and guardians are the primary decision-makers when it comes to their student’s access to library materials.
We value feedback from Kemp ISD students, parents and guardians, educators, and community members about library materials and services. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions for books to add to the collection, please connect with your campus librarian for a conversation.
-
Parents and guardians can view all books and other materials checked out by their children and indicate books they do not want their child to check out.

Partnering with Parents and Guardians
Parents and guardians are also encouraged to communicate with the campus librarian and their child’s teacher about special considerations regarding library materials that have been self-selected by their student. In accordance with state law and administrative procedures, parents or guardians may select alternative library materials for their student.
Parents can access the online library catalog here. Library digital resources can be accessed by logging into the student’s account through the KISD ClassLink portal.
Library Book Notification
To comply with the law passed by the Texas legislature in June 2025, all parents will receive an email notification when their student borrows a book from the school library. This email notification provides a record of all student checkouts to parents. If you do not wish to continue receiving those emails you can click ‘unsubscribe’ at the bottom of the email.
-
In compliance with state law, Kemp ISD provides a public list of all library materials that have been donated to or are proposed for purchase by a school library. These lists are available for a public comment period of at least 30 days before final board approval. Each list applies to that grade level and below. All titles are selected in accordance with the TSLAC Mandatory Collection Standards and the Kemp ISD EFB Local school board policy.
